Rockstar (2011) Review Aggregator
Rockstar, that has had film lovers in the country eagerly waiting in anticipation, has finally been released, and does it match up to the expectations that it had raised? Well, there is not much gushing about it, but looks like most of the critics are pleased. Here is what they have to say.
The TOI does not find anything absolutely new in it: “Imtiaz Ali is known for his old-wine-in-new-bottle brand of cinema. Rockstar is very much engaging as far as it is in that familiar territory, where the director adds a refreshing touch to the regular romance drama. But beyond that when the director ventures into uncharted zone, the narrative loses track.”
Rediff calls it flawed and fabulous: “Rockstar, is a heart-felt, inflexible vision of an insightful filmmaker. It is bound to generate polarizing responses. Either you will be able to hear the unsaid, or you will nitpick.”
Koimoi is somewhere half between: “Rockstar will be loved by one section of the audience – mainly the youth in the multiplexes of the big cities. But there will also be a section – mainly the single-screen audience, masses and small-centre audience – which will find the drama dark and depressing.”
