Kerala to the Polling Booths today!
A massive 2.31 crores of voters in Kerala would move to the polling booths to vote on the 13th of April, 2011. A total of 871 candidates are contesting the elections from 140 constituencies across the state. Among these contestatns, 893 are men and 78 are women.
Voting would start at 7am and would go on till 5pm. Around 3703 polling booths in the state have been identified as ‘sensitive’ and security measures have been adopted to see to it that trouble doesn’t ensue in any one of these. Kannur tops the list with 1257 ‘sensitive’ polling booths.
There are 61,641 postal voters in the state, and about 1.25 lakh officials have been asked to report for election duty. As many as 44 companies of police from the state and 40 from outside the state have been drafted for poll duty.
There has also bee a massive campaign that asks the public to exercise their role in the democracy, by voting. Celebrities and public figures have lent much support to the Voting campaign. Kerala is a state that has a 100 percent record in photo electoral identity cards.
