Trivandrum Gets Ready for a Week of Cinema Fever!

The capital city of the state is fast getting ready to host the International Film Festival of Kerala, that would commence on the 9th of December, 2011. Around 200 films from about 62 nations across the world would be screened in the festival, that is considered to be one among the best in the country.

Fifteen films would be screened in the competition section of the fest, and Salim Ahmed’s ‘Adaminte Makan Abu’ has been included in this category. There would also be special attractions in the Horror Cinema and Football Cinema categories. Not forgetting to mention a very special Arab Cinema section as well.

In the Retrospective section, IFFK 2011 would feature works by great artistes as Robert Bresson, Nagisa Oshima, Djibril Diop Mambéty and Yasu Masumura. In the Homage section, works of great filmmakers as Mani Kaul, Raul Ruiz, and Tareq Masud, and that of renowned actress Elizabeth Taylor would be screened.

In the Contemporary Masters Section, four films of Turkish director Semih Kaplanoğlu have been included. There would also be seven films each in the Contemporary Indian cinema and Malayalam cinema sections. Ten theatres – Kairali, Sree, New, Sreekumar, Sreevishakh, Dhanya, Remya, Ajantha, Sree Padmanabha and Kalabhavan – would screen films for the delegates. Screenings for the public have been scheduled at Nishagandhi.
