Central do brasil poster04 215x300 Focal Point   Central Station (1998)Central Station is a 1998 Brazilian drama film set in Brazil. It features Fernanda Montenegro and Vinícius de Oliveira in the major roles. The film’s title in Portuguese, Central do Brasil, is the name of Rio de Janeiro’s main railway station. The film premiered at the 1998 Berlin International Film Festival

The film tells the story of a young boy’s friendship with a jaded middle-aged woman. The film was adapted by Marcos Bernstein and João Emanuel Carneiro from a story by Walter Salles and it was directed by the latter.

The film has been a huge success at festivals and critics as with the public. At the 71st Academy Awards it was nominated both for the Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Fernanda Montenegro) as well as Best Foreign Language Film.

It holds a 94% Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the User Reviews are close behind at 93%. The tagline of the film went, “The motion picture for people who want to feel that they have shared a very special emotional experience… instead of just another night out at the movies!” It has been rated R by the MPAA for language.
