There are several reasons, why Feo Aladag’s film ‘When We Leave’ should be seen. For one, it tells a touching story of German-born Umay who struggles to gt out of an oppressive marriage in Istanbul. She decides she has had it to the hilt, and leaves taking her young son Cem with her. She hopes to start afresh with her family in Berlin, but finds herself rejected by them.

The film stars Sibel Kekilli, Nizam Schiller, Derya Alabora and Settar Tanriogenwho have come up with some brilliant performances. Of the actors, Nizam Schiller deserves a special mention for the adorable kid that he is, and for the highly impressive feat that he has come up with.

Sibel Kekilli’s outstanding portrayal of Umay, for which she received, among other awards, best actress at the Tribeca festival is one that is bound to leave  mark in your heart. This is a film that probes into questions related to freedom, and the answers aren’t that simple. The climax is shattering, and its only with a sense of shock that you would be able to sit through it. ‘When We Leave’ is definitely Worth A Watch!
