Collector (2011) Review Aggregator
Anil C Menon’s Collector that stars Suresh Gopi in the title role, looks like a film that has been cast in the typical action thriller mould in Malayalam films. The critics do not have much to say about this film!
Rediff believes that the film sticks to the tried and tested formula: “One step forward, two steps back; that is how you feel after you watch Suresh Gopi’s Collector directed by old hand Anil C Menon. It just makes you wonder whether your optimism in the last few months that Malayalam cinema is getting its act together and striding forward, is misplaced. Collector is just another Suresh Gopi film that will be appreciated by his fans, but has nothing new to offer.”
Nowrunning finds nothing inspiring in the film, nor anything interesting: “Collector fits into the socio-political thriller genre in Malayalam films to the ‘T’. The film tries to speak a lot, but the fact is that not many are in a mood to listen. For, we have seen it all.”
Sify calls it loud and formulaic to the core: “Collector is loud, formulaic and tailor made for those who are addicted to the age old good versus evil sagas. For those who get thrilled when the hero renders lines of dialogues to virtually everyone around and takes on a dozen hunks with sheer grit, this may be a fine film. For the rest of the world, this may not be such an exciting experience. The choice is yours!”
