From Palghat to New York and Shanghai: T D Dasan Wows the World
The endearing film T D Dasan Std VI B, that was directed by debutante director Mohan Raghavan, was one of the most discussed Malayalam films of last year, and was widely acclaimed critically. Unfortunately not many people got to see it on the screen, and the film left the theaters without much of a flutter.
At the IFFK, which could ideally be considered as the Thrissur Pooram of film lovers in the state, the film was once again the cynosure of all eyes, and it was even rumored that it might bag the coveted Golden Crow Pheasant Award, though eventually that didn’t happen. However, there is no denying the fact that people simply fell in love with this wonderful film, directed by a soft-spoken man whose faith in fine cinema had finally bore fruit.
The story of a young boy from Palghat, in search of his father soon found its way to the New York Indian Film Festival, and the film yesterday bagged the Best Script Award at the event. It would soon be screened at the Shanghai Film Festival as well.
Good to see the much deserved laurels coming Dasan’s way. Good to see the film being seen and appreciated by more people across the world. Good to see the faith in good cinema, win for a change.
