Orma Mathram (2011) Review Aggregator

Madhu Kaithapram, who gave us the delightful films ‘Ekantham’ and ‘Madhyavenal’ seems to have gone off track the third time around. His latest film ‘Orma Mathram’ that stars Dileep and Priyanka in the lead roles hasn’t managed to garner positive reviews.

For Nowrunning, this film is quite regressive: “Though it never actually takes a firm stance, the regressiveness in ‘Orma Mathram’ is quite apparent.Orma Mathram is quiet almost to the point of being sleepy and wants you to fill in all the gaps in the narrative. It fills its mouth with too many things that it neither manages to chew nor swallow.”

Rediff thinks of it as way too negative: “The director has said he wanted to show how a nuclear family behaves in a time of grave crisis. It does do that to some extent, but there’s just too much negativity that may put audiences off. Madhu Kaithapram may have had noble intentions in making Orma Mathram, but doesn’t quite pull it off.”

Sify calls it plain boring: “Orma Maathram has been modeled in the famous art house formula in Malayalam, but ends up a dismal attempt. When powerful films which are really engrossing are being made in various languages, it is a pity that certain filmmakers in Malayalam are still hanging on to the thoroughly outdated ‘arty’ format. Why waste time on such boring efforts?”
