Say no to dowry, exhorts Aamir Khan in ‘Satyamev Jayate’

All is not well with Indian marriages, pointed out Aamir Khan on his reality show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ this Sunday. The May 20th episode featured the actor taking on the issue of dowry in Indian marriages, and he brought under the focus several Indian women whose lives had changed for the worse as a result of it.

This has been an eye opener show in that it presented before us the example of Rani Tripathi from Mumbai, who dared stand upright against the wrongs that were being meted out on her, by her husband and parents-in-law. She had video taped their demands and had exposed them with the help of the media.

We aren’t sure how many women in this country would dare to follow suit, but Aamir’s show no doubt, has brought under the scanner yet another social evil in the country that needs to be dealt with right now. ‘No more dowry’ seems to be the anthem of the day, thanks to Aamir Khan!
