Achala Sachdev is no more!
Achala Sachdev is no more. The condition of the veteran actress who had been admitted to the Poona Hospital and Research Centre following a fracture had of late, deteriorated and she had been reportedly under ventilator support for the last few days. She passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012. She was ninety one years old.
Achala Sachdev started her career as a child. She later became known for mother and grandmother roles in Hindi films. Her most memorable roles were as Balraj Sahni’s wife in 1965 film Waqt, and Kajol’s grandmother in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995).
She has acted in many Yash Raj Films, apart from acting in English language films like the Mark Robson film Nine Hours to Rama (1963) and Merchant Ivory film, The Householder (1963). Achala Sachdev worked for All India Radio, Lahore prior to Indian partition and then at Delhi All India Radio. Balcony Beats offers condolences to the near and dear of the departed.
