Directing a Malayalam film can wait: Revathi
Actor – director Revathi feels that directing a Malayalam film can wait. As of now, she has plans of directing a film in Hindi. Quiz her as to why she is yet to direct a film in Malayalam, and Revathi says that even after all these years, she is yet to fully grasp the Kerala culture. Once she finds herself much closer to it, she might consider directing a Malayalam film.
Revathi also feels that people in Kerala are generally very much inquisitive, and there is a whole lot of confusion in general, if people in Kerala want to remain rooted in traditionalism or if they want to march ahead and embrace modernism. Revathi adds that this confusion gets reflected in the films as well.
Having made her acting debut in Malayalam in 1983 with the film ‘Kaattathe Kilikkoodu’, Revathi has acted in several films in almost all South Indian languages. She has directed five films till now, out of which the only Malayalam film she has directed is the short film, ‘Makal’, in the ‘Kerala Cafe’ anthology.
