Battleship (2012) Review Aggregator

Battleship, the American science fiction naval war film based on the children’s game has been directed by Peter Berg and released by Universal Pictures. The film stars Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna, and Liam Neeson. The film that has been released in India has received a panning from the critics.

Rediff thinks it doesn’t hit you: “The most rousing moment arrives when Hopper requests war veterans to help him sail a dysfunctional museum ship. Other than that, the interactions between trembling scientist Cal (Hamish Linklater) and paralysed war hero Mick (Greg Gadson) produce laughs every now and then but much of your time is spent wondering if you are in a fireworks factory, really.”

Koimoi thinks this one is a losing battle: “Peter Berg’s direction tries to make something out of the weak script but fails. Steve Jablonsky’s background score is loud. On the whole, Battleship is a disappointing fare. It will lose the box-office battle in India.”

Times of India isn’t impressed at all: “The film stays unconvincing throughout and that’s its biggest drawback. Right from superficial performances to bizarre disjointed plot, the film evokes laughter when it should be ideally inducing panic! Subplots which add nothing to the film’s buildup or story are plenty and appear only to take away the impact that is so essential for a film of this genre. “
