Focal Point – Lars and the Real Girl (2007)

Lars and the Real Girl is an American-Canadian comedy-drama film that was written by Nancy Oliver and which was directed by Craig Gillespie. The film stars Ryan Gosling, Emily Mortimer, Paul Schneider, Kelli Garner and Patricia Clarkson in the lead roles.

The film depicts a romantic relationship that young man by the name of Lars shares with an anatomically correct sex doll named Bianca. The film was much critically acclaimed and it earned an Academy Award nomination for “Best Writing (Original Screenplay)”. Gosling received a Golden Globe Award nomination for “Best Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy” and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for “Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role”.

The film holds an 81% Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on a total of 134 reviews, and 83% of the audience have given it a positive rating. Nn Metacritic, the film has an average score of 70 out of 100, based on 32 reviews. The film that was released on the 12th of October, 2007 has been screened at several international film festivals world wide.
