Focal Point – Heartbeats (2010)

In Focal Point, we feature ‘Heartbeats’ today (Les Amours imaginaires), a 2010 Canadian drama film directed by Xavier Dolan which narrated the story of two friends who both fall in love with the same man. It premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.

The premise of the film might sound quite common place, but its the treatment of it that has apparently caught the viewer’s fancy. The film won the The Sydney Film Prize at the 2010 Sydney Film Festival. It has remained a festival favorite as well as a general audience favorite across the world. The film has often been described as stylish and funny, and takes a closer look as to how it all changes when love strikes!

Heartbeats holds a 73% Fresh rating on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes (based on 66 reviews in total), with the audience rating slightly lower at 68%. At Metacritic, it holds a 70% Positive rating from critics, while the User score at the site is a 7 out of 10!
