Aneesh Upasana’s debut Malayalam film ‘Matinee’ that stars Mythili and Maqbool Salman in the lead roles is proving to be a dark horse and has opened to mostly fine reviews.

Nowrunning feels that it throws open the dark side of the film world:”Aneesh Upasana’s debut film ‘Matinee’, sweeps up the dark and murky bylanes of Chennai to tell the story of this young woman and a man, whose lives change for the worse, one afternoon after the Matinee show.”

Rediff calls it an interesting film: “Matinee shows that there are many interesting avenues to explore if you want to tell the story of the film industry other than lampooning the superstars, Sreenivasan style.”

Sify thinks the film is disappointing: “Matinee is one film, which could have been much better if handled with passion and expertise. In the end, even the makers of this film are merely using the sexuality of the heroine just like the so-called villains in the story, to market their movie.”
