Thalsamayam Oru Penkutty (2012) Review Aggregator

T K Rajeev Kumar’s take on films like ‘ED TV’ and ‘The Truman Show’ seems to have found few takers in Malayalam. The film ‘Thalsamayam Oru Penkutty’ that was released this Friday has been accorded a cold response by the critics.

Nowrunning feels there is very little scope for thought or entertainment: “‘Thalsamayam Oru Penkutti’ is amused at the weepy sitcoms on television that go on an on without any sign of stopping for good. What is perhaps ironic is that the film itself isn’t much better in that it tries to be a hard hitting satire, but ends up getting hit on its own head instead. “

Sify calls it a ‘sorry looking mess’: “  Malayalam filmmakers are trying to look chic with newer experiments these days. In the process of packaging movies in modern styles, they tend to ignore certain basic things like an engaging script, crisp editing, good performances and so on. The example is director T K Rajeev Kumar’s sorry looking mess called Tatsamayam oru penkutty. “

The Deccan Chronicle feels its quite unreal: “While to begin with the writers seem in a hurry to get on with the plot and in four quick frames have the girl hearing of the opportunity, posting her application, appearing for the audition, and having her picture splashed across the billboards, they seem to run out of steam later and offer the audience little of interest for close two hours. “
