The superstars are the backbone of Malayalam cinema: Siby K Thomas – Uday Krishna

Submitted by on July 15, 2012 – 12:26 pmNo Comment | 89 views

Script writers Siby K Thomas and Uday Krishna have stated that the new generation movement might be happening in Malayalam cinema, but the super stars remain the backbone of the industry. They have every reason to state so perhaps, since ‘Mayamohini’, their latest Dileep starrer has turned out to be the biggest box office hit of the year as yet, raking in almost 13 crores.

The script writers say that several of these new films are considered box office hits because the investment in them is infinitely lesser than films with bigger stars. But their collections are also much lower than films with super stars doing the lead roles.

They also added that several of these metro films that are often celebrated as huge successes also have a relatively lesser run at the box office, than the super star films. The opinions of the script writers are supportive of what actor Dileep had expressed in an interview recently, expressing his concerns about the ‘new generation’ wave.
