What took ‘Sukrutham’ this long to be remade?

Now that reports of the Bollywood remake of ‘Sukrutham’ have started pouring in, the question arises as to why the film had not been remade into other languages till now?

Perhaps its the very unique theme that the film deals with that made film makers from other languages apprehensive. The film had Mammootty playing a journalist who returns to life braving a fatal disease, only to realise that the world around had already readied his grave.

One of the most powerful films to have emerged in the Malayalam language, ‘Sukrutham’ would soon be remade into Hindi and Bengali. It remains to be seen as to who would take over the mantle from Mammootty in the remakes.
