Zee News states that its a ‘a real-life heist story smartly told’: “Very rarely would you come across a logically scripted and intelligently-directed drama thriller churned out from the good ol’ Hindi cine factory these days. And here’s a promising Neeraj Pandey for you who is back with a bang (and bang on target) with another awe inspiring film ‘Special 26’.”

DNA India calls it an intelligent thriller: “Not many of us would’ve been willing to bet on Akshay Kumar’s acting prowess. Well, thanks to directorNeeraj Pandey of the A Wednesday-fame, Akshay gives a convincing performance as a no-nonsense conman in Special Chabbis, a compelling heist drama based on real events.”

The Times of India totally agrees: “Interestingly, this con-job story is not superbly-stylish or stealthily serious. It doesn’t stun you with a social message like Pandey’s ‘A Wednesday’, but it grips, excites and ahh…climaxes too! And no … you can’t fake this one! Catch it for pure cinematic orgasm.”

The film is based on a real life group of con artists who pulled off many clever robberies during 1980′s, and robbed famous businessmen and politicians by pretending to be the CBI or Income tax officers. On the pretext of conducting raids they would take away all the black money hoarded by them.

Tthe film is also inspired by the real-life daring heist on the 19th of March, 1987, where the same group posing as CBI officers executed a daylight income tax raid on the Opera House branch of Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri in Mumbai, and disappeared with jewellery worth lakhs of rupees. The movie, set in the early 1980′s is scheduled to release on February 8, 2013.

Rediff calls the film unfunny and unclever: “This is no Rowdy Rathore, folks, this is just a gimmick. True, they did infuse it with a lot of other delightful innuendos, and some reference to comic books, but at the same time, ruined with unclever lines and expectant looks.This is a wannabe funny movie, an assault on our collective intellect.”

Zee News blames the script for the fiasco: “The genre of action is the Khiladi’s forte, goes without saying; however, when it remains in the realm of the real. One single man taking on more than 200 goons and flattening them single-handedly – come on, haven’t we had too much of that already? When Akshay Kumar isn’t beating people up or thinking about Asin, which – by the way – hardly happens, he isn’t bad.”

NDTV Movies is least impressed: “Director Ashish R. Mohan, erstwhile Rohit Shetty’s assistant, clearly believes that playing by the numbers is that all one needs to do in order to rustle up a laugh riot. Unfortunately for him, an action comedy is a hard game to tame. What does he have at his disposal? A hammy khiladi, a couple of songs that pass muster and a whole bunch of stuntmen flying all over the place. “

Jayaram had played a key role in the recently released Vijay film ‘Thuppakki’, and its said that he would be doing the same role in the Bollywood version of the film as well.

Murugadoss apparently has plans to remake the film in Hindi, with Akshay Kumar taking over the mantle from Vijay. Recently Malayali actor Prithviraj had made his Bollywood debut as well.

Asin has revealed that she has no intention whatsoever to marry any actor. She also said that she is at the moment, totally focussed on films and films alone.

Asin will soon be seen in ‘Khiladi 786′ opposite Akshay Kumar in which she would be seen in the role of a Maharashtrian. And there are plenty of other interesting projects as well. So, as of now, the rumor mongers can rest!

Zee News calls it absurd and avoidable: “‘Joker’ upped the curiosity level of Indian audience, especially after Bollywood’s exciting and a rather successful brush with ‘Jaadu’ – the most adorable alien we all met in Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Koi Mil Gaya’. But, Kunder’s much ambitious project- ‘Joker’ clearly lacks the ‘wow’ factor which it abundantly promised in the film’s trailer. Entertainment wise, the film really has nothing to offer.”

Koimoi agrees: “Shirish Kunder’s premise for Joker is too simplistic. Obviously, logic takes a backseat but it’s the predictability that is the real downer. The dialogues are alright. Some of the puns like Simon Goeback, the tongue-in-cheek timing of the Ayega song etc. are well written. The reason behind the title of the film Joker is well thought of.”

Rediff calls it a daft comedy: “ It’s clean, sure, bereft of swearing or innuendo (yet with a sultry item song) but it’s also daft. The aliens aren’t anything to write home about. The central conceit of the film is one of deceit, and — after long and bewildering sections where tanks charge towards a forest, firing indiscriminately through frenzied photographers and villagers, and where Kumar suddenly understands Talpade’s most inadequate sign-language — Akshay eventually comes off as a rude jerk.”
