She said that Jagathy’s children Parvathy and Rajkumar had prevented her from seeing him, despite a court order that permitted her to meet him.

Sreelekshmi feels that this was an instance of contempt of court, and intends to approach the court again on the issue. She is a plus one student in Trivandrum.

Sreelekshmi had filed a petition at the High court stating that she was not allowed to visit Jagathy Sreekumar by his children Parvathy and Rajkumar. She had also reportedly stated that she is being looked after for the last twenty years by Jagathy Sreekumar and that she had visited him while he was at the hospital at Kozhikode.

The court has ruled that Sreelekshmi be allowed to visit Jagathy at Vellore. The actor is said to be fast coming back to normalcy after an accident that had endangered his life and which had caused his family and fans immense concern.

Sify says searching for the interesting moments is a taxing exercise: “Parudeesa (meaning ‘paradise’) has some worthy moments here and there, but spending two hours searching for them is perhaps far from exciting. There are some films that make you feel like in paradise with its eminence, but this one is not one of them.”

Nowrunning sounds absolutely impressed: “As seen through the eyes of the several women whose lives he walked into and out of in no time, the poet’s bohemian life appears as one that had defied all conventions. What is extremely appealing about the film as such are the aforementioned open ends that it leaves around by design that ensures that it ends up being neither prejudiced nor judgmental.”

Rediff affirms that the film has a soul: “Ivan Megharoopan is a creative interpretation of the life story of poet P Kunhiraman Nair. It follows the soul-searching of a renowned poet who knows that he has hurt people who cherished him and that may be the heavy price he has to pay to sustain the flow of poems from his pen. The interplay of humour, irony, pathos, guilt and remorse makes the film interesting.”

Sify says this one is worth your time for sure: “Ivan Megharoopan succeeds in taking the viewer along with the narrative and the intriguing life of the poet has been presented in an attractive style. The film may not be looking at all the aspects of the life of a genius but then, it leaves you with the kind of feeling of delight that very few films provided the viewer during recent times.”

Though his words are not very clear, the doctors consider it a significant advancement. Jagathy might be able to leave the hospital within two months, they added.

Jagathy is undergoing physiotherapy at the hospital. Even if he is discharged from the hospital, he might require total rest for at least six months. Actors like Mammootty, Mohanlal and Sukumari had recently visited Jagathy at the hospital.

This is the first time Mohanlal visited Jagathy after his accident, and he said that there has been a tremendous improvement in Jagathy’s condition. He also said that he couldn’t meet Jagathy at the Calicut hospital, since his own mother was admitted to a hospital at Cochin at the same time.

Mohanlal said that Jagathy could recongise both him and Antony Perumbavoor who was with him, though he couldn’t talk with Jagathy. He added that Jagathy had smiled when he was asked to return to films as soon as possible, as hale and hearty as he had been earlier.

It all started off with veteran actor Thilakan being denied an award, that many felt was rightfully his due. The actor, who had staged a comeback of sorts with the film ‘Indian Rupee’ was apparently not given an award because because he did not essay the role of the chief protagonist in the film. Quite a strange reason indeed for the actor and his spectacular performance in the film to be ignored by the jury.

If Thilakan was not awarded, actor Jagathy Sreekumar who is at Vellore Christian Medical College, recuperating from an accident that he had met with a few months back, was in for a surprise, when the jury decided to make him the Best Comedian of the year for his performance in the film ‘Swapnasanchari’. Director Siby Malayil has been quite verbal in his displeasure at the award, stating that an actor of Jagathy Sreekumar’s caliber should not be relegated to a comedian. There are plenty of others who feel that the award comes as a rude shock.

Salim Kumar even plans to approach the High Court with a petition, stating that his documentary film ‘Pokkaali’ was not even viewed by the jury members! Salim says that he had furnished the Film Academy with the film print of the documentary, when it had insisted that the digital print was insufficient. But the jury never got to see the documentary! Salim has also reportedly taken offence to Blessy being selected as the Best Director, since he feels that the film ‘Pranayam’ was a straight lift off the Australian film ‘Innocence’.

It has been reported that Jagathy has started moving his hands and legs, and is also able to recognise people. His speech has not been regained fully. However, doctors believe that given the pace of improvement, Jagathy is likely to be healthy again soon.

Easily one of the most loved actors that Kerala has ever seen, Jagathy Sreekumar was admitted to the hospital following an accident that happened at Kozhikode, when the car that he was travelling in rammed into a road divider at Panambra. Jagathy was travelling to the sets of ‘Idavappathy’, having completed the shoot of ‘Thiruvambadi Thamban’.

Siddharth Lama, who was recently in Kerala to shoot for the film ‘Edavapathy’ being directed by Lenin Rajendran is now a young man who works at the Nepal Sports Council. He remembers that it was such great fun, working with Mohanlal and Jagathy Sreekumar in ‘Yodha’ a couple of decades back! Siddharth’s dad Yuvraj Lama used to be a fight master, and its thus that he had landed up with the offer to act in ‘Yodha’.

He also revealed that he had continued to act in six Nepalese films that were directed by his own father. However, he couldn’t take up acting as a full time career after he had got busy with his studies. The actor who loves Malayalam cinema has grabbed this offer since this is a very interesting role that has been offered to him.

Rediff calls it enchanting: “There is a charm in seeing the life of adults through a child’s eyes, where masks and pretensions crumble and the stark truth is revealed. Director Anjali Menon tries something like that in her film Manjadikuru. It is easy to categorise this as a story of nostalgia or the loss of the verdant world of childhood.”

Nowrunning says this film shouldn’t be missed: “Anjaly Menon’s ‘Manjadikkuru’ is an ode to the inherent innocence that once existed in us. Appealing equally to viewers of all ages, the flight of fancy that she offers to this incredible world that once was, is certainly not to be missed!”

Sify feels its a whiff of fresh air: “Director Anjali Menon’s Manjadikuru (Lucky Red Seeds), which has already received appreciation at various prestigious film festivals, puts the viewer on a nostalgic pedestal. Manjadikuru comes as a whiff of fresh air. Enjoy this fabulous debut of a new talent called Anjali Menon straightaway!”
