Nowrunning says that its a brain buster even with the statutory warning to leave your brains back home: “Even with the statutory warning to leave your brains back home, ‘Hotel California’ is a brain masher. The impossible to ingest plot contortions make it a bland mishmash that more than often seems contrived to the core.”

Rediff exhorts you to ignore it: “A question one often asks after watching some films is: “Why was this film made?” It’s a question one definitely asks of Hotel California, directed by Aji John. There is no plot to speak of in this joke of a film. The multiple subplots that remain underdeveloped.”

Sify calls it a damp squib: “Hotel California should prompt serious viewers and filmmakers to think about the line that separates decency and comedy. But then, we will wait for a worthy film to have such a serious discussion, ignoring this nauseating mess as a bad dream.”

Nowrunning is all praise for the bold theme and Prithviraj: “In ‘Mumbai Police’, Roshan Andrews and writers Bobby and Sanjay, lasso in their audience ever so steadily right into the midst of a steaming eddy. The dark lined elegance that the movie sports, makes it a gritty, knotty thriller – a hardboiled treat.”

Rediff feels its impressive: “The success of a suspense thriller depends on whether the viewer can put together the clues scattered in the narrative when the suspense is revealed in the end. Mumbai Police, the new film directed by Rosshan Andrrews, does just that.”

Sify says its one of the best films to have come out in recent times: “Mumbai Police belongs to its director and writers. Take a bow Rosshan, for taking the road less travelled, without too many commercial compromises.”

Looks like Jayasurya would be seen along with Biju Menon and Kavya Madhavan in the film ‘Naayika’ that forms one of the five films that make up the ‘Anchu Sundarikal’ anthology.

Jayasurya maintains that he has always maintained a warm relationship with Aashiq Abu, and that he was glad to accept the offer when it came his way. The film would be shot on locations at Munnar.

The story is about a private financer Eldho(Unni Mukundan), who lives in a hill station with his mother. His mother had become mentally challenged after she was raped by a police constable (Pradeep Rawat) during Eldho’s childhood. His mother conceived from the rape and gave birth to a baby girl. Johnkutty (Jayasurya), Eldho’s father tries to avenge his wife’s death by trying to kill the police constable and unfortunately dies. After Eldho has grown up, he reaches Pathiramanal, a place in Kuttanad, in search of the constable to take revenge. There he meets Sara (Remya Nambeesan). He realizes that Sara is the daughter of the constable.

The shooting locations are Marayur and Alappuzha. Initially Jayasurya was supposed to both the roles. However he later backed out, citing unavoidable reasons. The son’s role was later taken up by young star Unni Mukundan. The film would soon make it to the theatres.

Nowrunning states that the idea is best suited or a short film: “An idea that best suits a short film of less than half an hour of running time, gets puffed up into a gas balloon that takes almost a couple of hours to deflate in ‘David and Goliath’. Rajeev Nath’s film fails to rise above the middling script, as the exhausted viewer lets out one yawn after the other.”

Rediff calls it plain disappointing: “David & Goliath, in the final analysis, turns out to be a disappointment because in the end it seems to be just all about lighting up a bulb.”

India Glitz states that there is nothing much to be told: “Altogether this Rajeev Nath film is much better than his previous endeavours in production values. Had it been with a more convincing plot, the movie could have made big money and applauds at the Box Office.”

The duo had another release with ‘Trivandrum Lodge’ last year, and their next film together ‘David and Goliath’ is all ready for release. ‘Hotel California’, another film that will have the two actors playing the lead roles is currently being shot at a brisk pace.

Now, reports have come in that Anoop and Jayasurya would be seen together again soon, for a film that has been titled ‘Sweetheart’. The film would be scripted by Krishna Poojappura and would be directed by Saji Surendran.

Which is why, viewers who have got the opportunity to see the actor in his new avatar for the film ‘Hotel California’ still haven’t managed to close their mouths. Sporting trendy tees, shades and three fourths, Babu looks a far cry from any other character that he has played till date.

‘Hotel California’ is being directed by Aji John, and is being scripted by Anoop Menon. It stars Anoop Menon himself along with Jayasurya in the lead roles.
