Its purely out of interest that he is doing Hindi films, and doing a few Hindi films should not be seen as a shift of interest, says the actor.

“Malayalam films will remain my prime priority,” reveals the actor, who had wowed the critics and audience alike with his latest Malayalam film ‘Mumbai Police’.

Nihal remembers that director Roshan Andrews had insisted that its not an effeminate character – stereotype – that he had in mind. There were very few real gay characters in Indian films to take a closer look at, says Nihal.

The actor had earlier appeared in films like ‘Sevens’ and ‘Puthumukhangal’ and with ‘Mumbai Police’, he hopes more worthy offers would come his way.

It is with great expectations that the Malayalam film industry is looking forward to ‘Kunjali Marakkar’. Let is hope the film is able to live up to these expectations.

Rediff thinks the film is very engaging: “Deeply derivative of the traditional Hindi film narrative where blood-ties gain precedence over individual turbulence, Aurangzeb works even in its inept form. Because, one, Sabharwal constructs a compelling, intricate conspiracy of deceit and motive around predominantly grey characters, where chances are anyone can turn a volte face, for better or worse.”

India TV News does not sound that impressed: “The execution over here is half baked. You tend to hold your seat till the interim with some thrills and surprises. This serves the purpose to some extent,  but in the second innings it goes predictable and the dialogues go wacky.”

Sify calls it ‘retro with a modern dash’: “Call it a retro film with modern sensibilities. Old wine in new bottle. Whatever. Worth a watch, if you’d like to savour the story and performances, and forgive much of the rest.”

Emirates 247 thinks its half-baked: “‘Aurangzeb’ is unforgivably half-baked and falls short of being a classic. What it does pack is some stellar performances and a promise of better movies in the future.”

We hear that it is Ketan Shah who had brought the remake rights of the film in Hindi. The film would also be remade into Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages.

Roshan himself might direct the Hindi version, and if things work out, Prithvi himself might play Antony Moses in the Hindi version. Watch this space for the official confirmations!

Nowrunning is all praise for the bold theme and Prithviraj: “In ‘Mumbai Police’, Roshan Andrews and writers Bobby and Sanjay, lasso in their audience ever so steadily right into the midst of a steaming eddy. The dark lined elegance that the movie sports, makes it a gritty, knotty thriller – a hardboiled treat.”

Rediff feels its impressive: “The success of a suspense thriller depends on whether the viewer can put together the clues scattered in the narrative when the suspense is revealed in the end. Mumbai Police, the new film directed by Rosshan Andrrews, does just that.”

Sify says its one of the best films to have come out in recent times: “Mumbai Police belongs to its director and writers. Take a bow Rosshan, for taking the road less travelled, without too many commercial compromises.”

Roshan Andrews’ new film casts Prithvi in a role that no other mainstream actor in Malayalam has experimented with till date. The fact that Prithviraj is one of the most popular actors in the state with an incredibly huge female fan following, makes it even more notable, that he had the guts to take up a role as diverse and demanding as the one that he has enacted in ‘Mumbai Police’.

Let’s face it, actors have often been known to be scared of the roles that they play on screen. The fear seeps in from the possibility of an audience mistaking the fictional character for real. Of late there have been changes, when lead actors have started accepting roles with shades of grey. And yet, when it comes to sensitive issues as sexuality, they still remain wary of their public image.

Kudos to Prithvi for throwing caution to the winds, and for daring to do the unthinkable in ‘Mumbai Police’. And by doing so, his machismo has gone for a rise even all the more. This is how we would like a true actor to be, and Prithviraj, as of now leads the rest of them by a mile.

And what is more, a new heroine gets introduced to Malayalam through the film. It is Nandita, a pretty young girl who would make her dream debut opposite Prithvi in the film which is a romantic tale directed by Anil C Menon and scripted by Jinu Abraham.

‘London Bridge’ would also have another heroine, Andreah Jeremiah, who is better known to the Malayali audience as Anna of ‘Annayum Rasoolum’.
