Reports also suggest that the director might invite Mammootty to do the lead role in this film. That would be a whopper combo indeed, since we have never seen the two amazing actors together.

The unit had a surprise visitor the other day when the Mettmann Mayor Brent Gunter paid a visit to the sets along with his wife and met up with Mammootty.

A pic that shows a clean shaven, dashing Mammootty along with the Mayor has gone viral on social networks. Mammootty plays a Malayali based in Germany in the film, that would also have Mohanlal and Dileep playing guest roles.

‘Leela’ was expected to star Mammootty and Rima Kallingal in the lead roles, but news reports point out that the complexity in the theme might have persuaded the director to drop the project.

The film is based on R Unni’s short story that appeared in Mathrubhumi weekly, and has an extremely bold theme that the makers are not sure, would be accepted by the Malayali audience.

It has been reported that Mammootty would play an NRI in the film, who returns to Kerala from Germany after being in the foreign country for several years. Back in Kerala, he attempts to organize a stage show seeking the participation of Malayalam film stars, and runs into trouble.

The film is expected to be a satire on the lines of ‘Pranchiyettan and the Saint’, and would in all probability go on the floors shortly.

The film was announced almost an year back, with Ann Augustine in the lead. However we soon heard that Ann was out of the project and that Karthika Nair had walked in.

However, news reports that have been pouring in now, point out that it will be Rima Kallingal and not Karthika Nair who would play the role which is considered to be an extremely bold one. Mammootty would play the male lead in the film that is based on a short story by R Unni.R Unni

However now news has streamed in that the actress has been replaced by Karthika Nair in the film. The reports are as yet unconfirmed and the reason behind Ann’s exit are still unknown.

‘Leela’ would have Mammootty playing the lead role of Kuttiyappan while Nedumudi Venu will be seen in the role of Pillechan. Shoot of the film is expected to start by the end of February.

To be directed by Ranjith, the film would have Ann Augustine playing the female lead. It was initially reported that Shankar Ramakrishnan would play the lead male role in the film.

Reports have been now pouring in that it would not be Shankar Ramakrishnan, but Mammootty who would be playing the role of Kuttiyappan in the film. Now if that’s true, the anticipations regarding ‘Leela’ would rocket up even further. Watch this space for confirmations.

Sify feels Mammootty and Kavya Madhavan are nothing short of brilliant: “Bavuttiyude Namathil may evoke a sense of deja vu, and its share of flaws but there are some genuine moments that could be mostly engaging for a film buff. Watch this film for Kavya Madhavan and chances are that you won’t complain much.”

Rediff thinks the film is watchable: “Bavuttiyude Namathil is watchable at least for the performance of the three main characters.”

Nowrunning calls it disappointing: “Words cannot be minced in saying that Bavuttyude Namathil is plainly disappointing. No movie can assume even a semblance of quality, just because it comes from the stable of an able scenarist going through a purple patch.”

‘Bavuttiyude Naamathil’ would throw light on how relationships go wrong, and how ego and the inability to adjust make a mess of human lives. Mammootty would be seen in the role of Bavutty.

There are also Shankar Ramakrishnan, Kavya Madhavan, Kaniha and Rima Kallingal in key roles. The film will be out on the 21st of December.
