Nowrunning feels the film is a mixed bag: “‘Natholi’ isn’t a consistently enjoyable film that you would fall in love with over the weekend. It does prod your thoughts however, and keeps you intellectually engaged. Small fish it certainly ain’t; but then, it ain’t really big fish either.”

Rediff exhorts you not to miss this one: “The turmoil that a writer goes through while creating characters and  preventing them from taking a life of their own can be looked at from the philosophical to outright whacky way. Director V. K. Prakash does it in a whacy way in his new film Natholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla written by Shankar Ramakrishnan with Fahadh Faasil in the lead.”

Sify thinks the film has an eye for the unexceptional: “Natholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla is witty and hooks you straight into the narrative with its inherent charm. It’s not at all like what you have seen in Malayalam before and it is imperative to applaud the sincerity of the makers. Don’t miss this one, if you have an eye for the unconventional.

Looks like this film that has been scripted by Shankar Ramakrishnan is all ready to be remade into Bollywood.  It’s Bijoy Nambiar, who had earlier directed the film ‘Shaitan’ who would remake ‘Natholi’ into Hindi.

Kamalinee Mukherjee is the heroine of the film, and would reportedly do the lead role in Hindi as well. But its not yet sure if the film’s lead hero Fahad Fazil would make his Bollywood debut through the film.

The film, we hear, is based on VKP’s own Hindi film ‘Freaky Chakra’ that told the story of a relationship between a middle aged woman and a young man.

The director however says that though there would be similarities in the basic premise, ‘Carbon Copy’ would be distinctly dissimilar to ‘Freaky Chakra’.

Devi plays a character by the name of Sareena in the film, whom she feels is one that would be noticed. She says that if offered interesting roles, she would continue to be in films.

Devi is currently settled in Chennai, and it was Anoop Menon, who offered her the role in ‘Trivandrum Lodge’. The film is being scripted by Anoop and has Jayasurya doing a key role along with the writer himself. Dhwani plays the female lead.

Balachandran revealed that Prakash had repeatedly asked him to pen a script based on the life of the poet P Kunhiraman Nair. However, when the script was ready, Balachandran had expressed a desire to direct the film himself, and V K Prakash had fully obliged with great happiness.

Prakash however used to visit the film’s sets quite often, remembers Balachandran. And not just that he was more than willing to shoot the promotional song for the film with Remya Nambeesan, that went on to become a rage as well.
